Dr. Jordan Shurr is a dedicated scholar and educator committed to advancing special education and inclusive practices for students with extensive support needs, including those with autism, intellectual disability, and other developmental disabilities. Before transitioning to academia, he worked as a special education teacher and consultant, specializing in augmentative and alternative communication and assistive technology. Dr. Shurr’s practical experience as a teacher and consultant, combined with his research, informs his approach to developing and applying strategies that support learning access and positive outcomes for students with diverse needs.

Currently an Associate Professor at Queen’s University and Director of the ADD*Ed (Autism and Developmental Disability–Education) research group, Dr. Shurr’s work bridges research and practice through a focus on curricular access, teacher preparation, and classroom-based interventions. His numerous publications and books explore inclusive instructional strategies, assistive technology, teacher professionalism and leadership, as well as cultural competence, offering actionable insights for educators worldwide. With an emphasis on global collaboration and practical, classroom-focused solutions, Dr. Shurr empowers educators to create equitable and inclusive learning environments that support all learners.
