My view on teaching
I am the intellectual and emotional product of many dedicated, talented, and creative educators who have helped me make sense of chaos and question the obvious. I teach because I have been taught to share not only what I know but also how it is that I have come to know it and what it is that I still do not know. Teaching and guiding future and current professionals provides a means to enhance the profession of special education, but even more so the lives of students with disabilities. I teach because I care about the opportunities, the access, and the choices that are made available to individuals with special education needs and their families. My ultimate goal in teaching is to equip pre and in-service teachers with the appropriate knowledge and skills as well as fuel in them a passion for service and life-long learning within the field.
Special education teachers play a critical role in the development of individual students as well as the field of special education as a whole. It is the role and privilege of the teacher educator to facilitate and inspire a positive and enabling future for students with disabilities, their families, and their teachers.
